Minimalist Board Game Box Designs

Just incase you haven’t noticed yet, one of the major crazes lately has been designing movies, music and television posters in a minimal, modernist, less is more or whatever you call it sorta fashion.

You can see an example of television and movie posters here and also an example of minimalist music album covers here and if you’re interested in video games, then don’t worry you can see an awesome collection of video games re-designed as penguin classics here.

Everytime I saw one of these collections I loved it and always thought to myself, “I should have a crack at doing my own”. The only problem being is that the people who had already done movies, television, music and video games had done them so well, so there really wasn’t any point doing any myself cause they’d end up looking pretty lame.

Then I thought about board games. I love board games and I don’t know if you’ve noticed but board games usually suck at their box covers, leaving me heaps of room to improve! Using inspiration from the design collections linked above, I set out to do a set of minimalist board game designs. I could have kept going, but decided to stop at 8 and maybe do more some other time (or give an opportunity for someone else to have a go at designing some).

That’s about all I have to say - so here they are:

Cluedo

Scrabble

Settlers of Catan

Battleship

Trivial Pursuit

Monopoly

Mastermind
